Danielle Fung: Heart of the Good Shepherd

Sr. Danielle Fung, RGS, has a heart of the Good Shepherd. When she walks through the doors at the Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco the clients there burst into life. They flock to her immediately for a morning group hug and spend the rest of the day happy in her presence.

Sr. Danielle is an apostolic Sister with Sisters of the Good Shepherd. She lives in the San Francisco community of Sisters, which is the community that is missioned to support Good Shepherd Gracenter. Sr. Danielle serves as a social worker at the Pomeroy center, where adults with disabilities go during the day to gain access to recreational, vocational and educational opportunities. It is a mission that gives her great joy.

“Every day that I come here I feel fulfilled,” she said. “My clients are like family to me. They return to me more love than I can ever possibly give them, and they deepen my faith.”

Paul brought me to a spiritual deepening and greater appreciation of the Our Father prayer when I heard him recite it. Paul says the Our Father through his whole body and spirit. It’s beautiful, said Sr. Danielle.

Between hugs, affirmations and playful kidding around, Sr. Danielle encourages her clients to self-express, work toward personal achievements and learn skills that increase their independence.  She sees God’s radiance in each of her clients and says she is grateful for the unique gifts that God has given them.

“All of my clients are angels,” Sr. Danielle said. “I’m sure they all have rooms waiting for them in heaven, and they are my ticket to heaven too. I love them.”
