We believe we will be stronger and more effective together than alone.
It is a time of renewal, unity and courageous new beginnings for the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (OLCGS). The OLCGS U.S./Toronto Region, officially formed in October 2025, brings together the former provinces of Central South, New York/Toronto, and Mid-North America in shared mission and faith.
Our mission of being the reconciling presence of Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is alive, with sisters living and serving in 18 states and five countries as well as partners-in-mission from 16 ministries and beyond.
Vision for Mission
Sisters and partners-in-mission are called to share God’s merciful love by bringing hope, healing, and justice to those most in need. Inspired by the vision of the founders, St. Mary Euphrasia and St. John Eudes, we work alongside our partners-in-mission to accompany people on their journeys toward dignity, opportunity, and wholeness.
Together, we are building a future rooted in compassion, equity, and reconciliation. We are committed to empowering women and girls, caring for our common home, and creating lasting change through collaboration, prayer, and action.
By joining our gifts and resources, we believe we can respond to the needs of our world and ensure that the Good Shepherd mission continues to flourish for generations to come.
Leadership
2026 – 2030
Sister Maureen McGowan, Regional Leader
A native New Yorker, Sr. Maureen has devoted her life to leadership, social work, and service among underserved communities. She has founded and guided programs supporting women and children, served on multiple boards, and promoted justice, advocacy, and community building.
Sr. Maureen brings energy, creativity and joy to both her ministry and daily life. You can often find her cooking, gardening and dancing. She resides in St. Louis and works out of the region’s central office.
Sister Jude Ellen Golumbieski, Contemplative Regional Councilor
Sr. Jude Ellen has devoted her life to contemplative living, leadership, and service as a Good Shepherd sister. Her formation includes specialized studies in spirituality, formation, and Spanish. She served two terms as a congregational contemplative councilor.
Sr. Jude Ellen finds joy in learning and sharing the congregation’s history, helping others connect with its rich heritage and enduring mission.
She resides in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, where her primary ministry is one of prayer and presence.
Sister Gayle Lwanga, Regional Councilor
Sr. Gayle has devoted her life to leadership, advocacy, and service as a Good Shepherd sister.
Her ministries have included work with single pregnant women, parish communities, as well as peace and justice initiatives. Sr. Gayle served for 12 years as national coordinator of the National Advocacy Center (NAC), being a voice for just policies at the federal level.
In the former Province of Mid-North America, Sr. Gayle served on the leadership and formation teams.
She resides in Cincinnati and remains active in organizations that support women, religious life, and leadership. She also serves on boards and in leadership roles at both the local and national levels.
Sister Martha Patricia Escobar, Regional Councilor
Sr. Martha Patricia has devoted her life to pastoral ministry, leadership, and service as a Good Shepherd sister.
Her ministry has included leadership roles in Hispanic and Latino ministry, religious education, and parish communities across the United States. She has also shared her gifts in community leadership as coordinator of the El Paso Community and as a member of the former Central South Province leadership team.
Residing in Green Bay, Sr. Martha Patricia finds joy in reading, watching documentaries and movies, and volunteering in the community. She values collaboration and teamwork, bringing her bright spirit to all areas of her ministry.
Sister Mary Carol McClenon, Regional Councilor
Sr. Mary Carol has devoted her life to leadership, pastoral ministry, and service as a Good Shepherd sister.
Her ministry has included leadership and mission-integration roles in the former Mid-North America Province, as well as service at domestic violence shelters in Guam and Saipan.
Residing in St. Louis, Sr. Mary Carol finds joy in music ministry, hiking and camping, reading fiction, and exploring her interests in science and medicine.
